Transcription Providers & API Keys

Choose a provider, add your API key, and transcribe on-device or in the cloud.

MagiaCap supports several transcription backends. Most require an API key from the provider.

Cloud Providers

  • Groq — fastest, very accurate, requires a free API key — recommended default.
  • OpenAI — high accuracy, word timestamps supported.
  • ElevenLabs — speech-to-text via the ElevenLabs API.

On-Device (Local)

  • WhisperKit — Apple-optimized Whisper models that run entirely on your Mac, no internet needed.
  • Apple Speech — the system speech recognizer.

Add Your Key

  1. 1Open Settings → Transcription.
  2. 2Choose a provider from the list.
  3. 3Paste your API key in the key field.
  4. 4If a provider isn't configured, MagiaCap shows a popover pointing you to Settings.
Local transcription is free and private; cloud providers are faster on very long files. You can switch per project.
